Memorial Day 2012

Happy Memorial Day 2012! Technically, this is the official start to Summer. Considering the Portland, OR skies, I could argue this point. Alas, we are still gloomy with thunderstorms predicted. Don't let that stop you! Strawberries are in, jams are being made, & the next up will be a luscious Strawberry Pink Peppercorn Jam - sweet, spicy, with just a hint of floral~peppery back note. Perfect for cheese plates, used in salad dressings, or on marinades for grilling! We take this as a very good sign for the Summer Yet to Arrive!

In the Field & Kitchen this Last Week

This past week has brought weather changes, Summer vacations, & all sorts of schedule changes! We went strawberry picking on Wednesday out on the gorgeous Sauvie Island. We brought back 32+ pounds of beautiful Hood strawberries for our efforts. These were made into The Naked Fraises Jam - our unembellished flavor this month. This is a pure strawberry jam with just a hint of lemon to make it bright & sunny (despite the rain today). Delicious on toast, or with some Serrano ham for your picnic spread. If picnics are not in your game plan, this jam is lovely in a crostata, too. More berry picking awaits!
