Cherrydale Loses a Mighty Tree

Life is just a bowl of cherries.
Don't take it serious; life's so mysterious.
You work, you save, you worry so,
But you can't take your dough when you go, go, go.
So keep repeating it's the berries,
The strongest oak must fall,
The sweet things in life, to you were just loaned
So how can you lose what you've never owned?
Life is just a bowl of cherries,
So live and laugh at it all

Yesterday someone in my neighborhood, for reasons totally inexplicable to me, decided to cut down an ancient cherry tree. It was filled with beautiful, ripe fruit. I have lots of these delicious cherries & will be pitting them today, thinking of how these are the very last cherries this tree will ever produce. It makes me feel sad, wistful...these cherries belong in something really special, so perhaps they will join some pistachios in a chutney ~ an ode to the tree & to Summer itself.

  1. ...and, it goes without saying, but if you need ideas on how to best use a chutney or jam composed of these delicious cherries, please let me know! I have lots of ideas to share!
