Turning...

Leaves turning, weather chilling, another year in the throes of dying...kitchens bustling, kids anticipating Thanksgiving, and time slipping by. This week Pink Slip Jam has taken a decidedly different tack regarding the Holidays by urging people to not participate in Black Friday. Regardless of a need to earn a living, and despite the need for small, local businesses to succeed & thrive, I believe we need to focus on making a life, not always 'making a living'. For at least one day, focus on something beside buying more, more, more. I doubt any of us will crumble to the ground if there is less consuming for one day. If you have kids, spend the day making something, or clean out the closets & bookshelves & donate to homeless shelters, or walk the dog who may live with an elderly person who doesn't get out much. Offer up something besides your wallet. Pink Slip Jam will still be making jams & chutneys, prepping fruit, & grinding spices, but for one day, I'd ask that people consider switching the paradigm & see what might happen. Things need to change & we are all part of the solution.

  1. For all my friends who own businesses, this is not meant to offend. I know livlihoods depend upon this time of year...I'd just like to have 1 day focused on something besides consumerism...
