Why, Yes! I Like Green Eggs & Hamm...

First off, a disclaimer: Much as I detest smoking, I would allow Jon Hamm into my kitchen, whether he was frying up an egg or not. And, in case you were wondering, this is not the kitchen where Pink Slip Jam is made. Now that that's clearly stated, let me just say that with Spring here, my chickens & ducks are laying eggs again & it's a glorious thing! I love eggs fried and placed on a bed of wilted greens (usually left overs from a salad the night before). I love scrambled eggs with nettles, poached eggs with arugula, baked eggs with chives, and asparagus spears served with prosciutto & eggs. In other words, I am a big fan and consider this meal to be just perfect for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. On Sunday evening I was so excited to watch the Season 5 premiere of Mad Men, that I made a salad & ate it with a fried egg then scooted out the door to the Hollywood Theater here in Portland to watch Don Draper on the big screen. I seriously doubt that Don would spend any time messing with nettles. It occurs to me that if Mr. Draper ate his 'greens', it most likely would be in the form of a cocktail olive. Still, in my dreams I can imagine sitting in a spotlessly clean & elegant breakfast nook, happily consuming the following sandwich with Mr. Hamm. A girl can dream.

Crunchy rolls
Bacon or pancetta
Fried eggs
Frisee mixed with some olive oil & balsamic vinegar
salt & pepper

If you want to gild the lilly, go ahead, add some cheese...
Don't be guilty. Enjoy!

  1. I frequently will make a breakfast sandwich with broiled english muffin, cheese, sliced ham, and a nice over easy fried egg. Orange juice. Sometimes a sliced tomato. with balsamic and EVOO. heaven at 7AM

  2. Breakfast sandwich = Heaven. True. Jon Hamm in my kitchen would take things up a notch. With or without the sandwich...
