Despite a late Summer heat wave, the pots will be simmering this week with the first batch of Heart of Darkness, a thick fig concoction redolent with cinnamon & cocoa nibs. It's a grown up Fig Newton sort of taste with lots of possibilities...like the Summer in the Northwest, it doesn't last long. Limited batch this year due to weather & an ephemeral growing season...A little bit of magic in a jar. We think it would make the loveliest treat to be savored in a tart for Hallowe'en or Day of the Dead.
