A Very Big Day Indeed

It has come to my attention that some people are unclear on just how special February 2 is. In the Middle Ages some of the In-the-Know Individuals decided that Candlemas (now celebrated as Ground Hog Day) was the day the birds selected their mates & began to build their nests for the coming Spring. Consider how important this would be during long, dark, cold days that stretched on endlessly. We have been relatively fortunate this year in the Northwest - there have been some sunny brisk Winter days, yet I am always so happy when February arrives with her promise of a new season. The cherry blossoms peek out, the citrus fruits are in the markets, and people begin to wear something other than black clothing! Can Spring be far off? Perhaps...still, this day is a whole lot more than some pudgy rodent being hauled from his lair to prognosticate upon the weather. This magnificent creature, pictured above, strikes me as someone who enjoys some good snacking. I may be anthropomorphizing here, but just to let you know Pink Slip Jam is now available at these fine establishments:

Oui Presse
Salt & Straw Ice Cream
Woodsman Market
Salt, Fire, & Time
A Cena Restaurant
...and from me, directly!

Celebrate the noble Ground Hog! Begin building your nest for Spring! Supply your larder with tasty comestibles!
